…you def heard all about it from the commentators the next day. Third week of the season, and you’d think that New York’s favorite whipping boys had just blown the whole season. Fact: they had one bad game out of two and are sitting in third place in the league. And offensive coordinator Marty Morninhweg – persona non grata with an awful lot of NY Jets fans earlier this week – has his defenders, too. Like CBS New York pointed out, the offensive line was struggling, and it wasn’t all because of poor coordination. They were down star wide receiver Eric Decker, who is benched with an injury, and it’s only the second game of the season. Seriously, don’t you think it’s a little early to be calling for the coaches’ heads?
What the Experts Say
Now, if you turn to the experts – you know, the guys who make their living making predictions about sports teams – they’ve got a lot to say about why you don’t want to miss any of the New York Jets action this season. For starters, there’s last year’s history. The most appropriate one-word description for their performance last year was “unpredictable” – they could be total stars on the field in one game and look like a Pop Warner team the next. This year, they’ve added Chris Johnson (running back) and Eric Decker (wide receiver), which should shake the lines up a bit and give fans more than a little to cheer about. Meanwhile, Geno Smith is looking pretty good in the QB slot, and he’s had some great coaching and mentoring to shine him up even more. Bleacher Report has him catching for more than 1,000 yards for the season, which is pretty impressive if he can pull it off.
Bottom line: the New York Jets may not be in anyone’s top ten list of Super Bowl contenders, but they’re always entertaining to watch. Don’t miss any Jets action this season.
