So all over the national newspapers, sports columnists are eulogizing the Houston Astros after their Monday night loss essentially eliminated them from post-season play. You’d think that means people would just not bother showing up for the Astros remaining 9 games, but you’d be oh-so-wrong. There are a lot of good reasons to keep your eye on what happens with the Houston Astros during the rest of the season – and get a jump on grabbing your tickets for the 2015 season. Houston Astros v. Seattle Mariners – This Weekend!
This weekend, the Astros are throwing down in a three-game series at home against the Seattle Mariners, and it’s shaping up to be a fun – and kinda important – series for Seattle. They’re within a game of securing that elusive wild card slot again – but so are the Royals. The Mariners have to win at least 4 of their next 6 games to stay in the running, and their history against the Astros hasn’t been all that great this season. There’s also a little bad blood between the two teams, so that might be just the impetus Houston needs to really come back strong against their long-time foes.
Texas Rangers v. Houston Astros – Come Monday!
The Astros and the Rangers enjoy a healthy intrastate rivalry, and it’s going to play out one last time in the Monday-Wednesday series next week. Right now, the year’s head-to-head record for the two teams stands at 11-6, in favor of Houston. Three more Houston wins will definitely hurt, and let the Astros claim that they’re 2-for-1 in the wins column against the Rangers. Of course, the Rangers aren’t likely to just roll over for Houston either. They’re still smarting after a couple of embarrassing outings, and their battling to take the Astros down a peg.
New York Mets v. Houston Astros – Next Week
And of course, the Astros will be ending their season on the road against the Mets, who are also on the didn’t-quite-make-it-this-year list. The games are over the weekend – one of the last weekends of expected nice weather in the NE. If you want to enjoy one last game of the season – or haven’t managed to get out to one yet this year, you’ll be joining a lot of other fans who are just there to enjoy a day at the ballgame. And when you come right down to it, isn’t that what baseball, the great American pastime, is really all about?
