Fall in Love with College Spring Football

footballfans8While the rest of the world is focused on the brackets for March Madness and NCAA Men’s Basketball championships, college football coaches and players are breaking out the cleats and suiting up to hit the gridiron for some serious spring football. OSU just recently announced the kickoff time for their annual Ohio State LiFE Sports Spring Football game – it’s 1:30 p.m. on April 16 for those who want Ohio State spring football tickets – but OSU is far from the only team hitting the field for college spring football. Why bother? Turns out there are some really good reasons to love NCAA spring football. Here are a few.

Less Pressure More Fun

Since games played on the spring schedule don’t count in the NCAA rankings, coaches aren’t under as much pressure to make every player minute count. That means they take more risks and try out combinations they wouldn’t play during the regular season. It also means that lots more players get a chance to get out on the field and show off their stuff. And the players aren’t feeling as much pressure, either, so they’re out there playing as much for fun as for points. The whole atmosphere at spring college football games is lighter and a lot more fun.

Get a Sneak Peek at the Fall Lineup

Want to get a sneak peek at your favorite NCAA football teams as they’re shaping up and firming out their lineups? Spring is the time to do it. For a lot of teams, the spring gridiron is a proving ground for younger, newer players. By this time, coaches generally know who will be returning for the full season and which players will be moving on. While this isn’t always a big deal, it can be huge. Ohio State is a case in point this year. Head coach Urban Meyer spent the last five years developing one of the strongest starting lines in the entire league – but his best players, the ones who have spent three to four seasons playing with each other and getting to know every nuance of their teammates’ style, are ready to leave the nest. For the first time since taking over as head coach, Meyer will be starting with as many freshman rookie players as established lettermen. There’s a lot of speculation about how that will affect the OSU Spartans in the 2016 NCAA season – but those who understand these things know that they can get a good feel for how deep Meyer’s new line of starters will be, and how well they’ll mesh as a team by showing up to root for the Spartans during the spring football season.

Spot New Talent

One of the most exciting aspects of spring football – for both coaches and fans – is the chance to spot new talent. Spring is when walk ins have the chance to show what they’ve got, and when they’re competing for their spot on the team – or on the bench. Spring college games give fans and coaches alike a preview of the new players in action. If you’re lucky, you just might spot a developing star.

Not all NCAA teams will be playing a spring game, and NCAA college spring football tickets are limited.
